Cinderella - Russian National Ballet Theater

Emens Auditorium
Cost: See website for details Bananelvis Not sure how to explain this one. Nom.The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union's ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom by starting new companies dedicated not only to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet but to invigorate this tradition as the Russians began to accept new developments in the dance from around the world. Ms. Radchenko is the founder of the Russian National Ballet Theatre, and she has focused the Company on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works and developing new talents throughout Russia, with a repertory of virtually all of the great full works of Petipa. This year, she brings the classic, Cinderella, to Emens.

Frank Warren: Post Secret
7:00pm to 12:42pm @
Emens Auditorium
PostSecret is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren, in which people mail their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard. Select secrets are then posted on the PostSecret website, or used for PostSecret's books, museum exhibits or events around the nation. The concept of the project was that completely anonymous people decorate a postcard and portray a secret that they had never previously revealed. Entries range from admissions of sexual misconduct and criminal activity to confessions of secret desires, embarrassing habits, hopes and dreams. The secrets are meant to be empowering both to the author and to those who read it. Frank Warren claims that the postcards are inspirational to those who read them, have healing powers for those who write them, give hope to people who identify with a stranger's secret, and create an anonymous community of acceptance.

PSY
7:30pm to 12:42pm @
Emens Auditorium
Cost: See website for details Les 7 doigts de la Main translates as "the 7 fingers of the hand." It is a twist on a French idiom ("the five fingers of the hand") used to describe distinct parts united tightly, moving in cooridination towards one common goal. Les 7 doigts de la main's initial goal was to bring circus to a human scale, all the while blending such diverse forms as acrobatics, avant-garde dance, physical comedy, music, song, spoken word, interactive video projections, and live DJ-ing. The result was a brand new type of show. 2012 marks the premiere of their largest creation yet, PSY. The 7 Fingers found that the juxtaposition of dark and complex themes with the joyful and celebratory language of circus made for a rich artistic experiencem, and this time dove into the murky underworld of the human psyche, traveling through the various characters' dreams, visions and memories.

Here Come the Mummies
8:00pm to 12:42pm @
Emens Auditorium
Ball State University
Cost: $18(adv.)/$20(door) Ages: 15+ It’s been a long and dusty road since 1922 when, at a dig in the desert south of Tunis, Professor Nigel Quentin Fontenelle Dumblucke IV (1895-1973) unearthed the ruins of an ancient discotheque to find a dozen undead Egyptian mummies inexplicably throwing down what he dubbed, "Terrifying Funk From Beyond the Grave.” These mummies will amaze audiences with a funk concert unlike anything you have seen before.
From these hovering souls, who called themselves Here Come The Mummies, Professor Dumblucke learned of the powerful curse that doomed them to wander the earth, seeking the ultimate riff, the one that may allow their spirits to rest after eons of, as they put it, "banging out solid fly grooves, y'all." This so-called curse may have been retribution for the deflowering of a great Pharaoh's daughter, but the story has become somewhat murky over the centuries.
What is clear is that these saucy spectors resurfaced around the turn of the Millennium. Without so much as a hot bath, HCTM would open for P-Funk and Al Green, rock Super Bowl Village 2012, become regulars at The Bob and Tom Show and massive festivals like Summerfest, and make themselves the darlings of sell-out crowds over wide swaths of North America. Maybe that's why the ladies (and some dudes) can't stop losing their minds over these mayhem-inducing mavens of mirth.
Tickets on sale July 12, 2013.
