First Thursday Opening: 'De la MER et le CIEL - Of SEA & SKY' + 'The New Zealand Collection'
5:00pm to 8:00pm @
Gordy Fine Art & Framing Company
224 E. Main St. Muncie, IN
Artists through the ages have traveled to far-away places for inspiration and new views of the world. The two artists featured for the May exhibit at Gordy Fine Art will offer their individual views of France and New Zealand for Muncie gallery guests.
Suzanne Lambert paints large, lush canvases of color and feeling. "De la MER et le CIEL - Of SEA & SKY" features swirls and dabs that dance together, then apart, with special sensitivity to light and rhythm. In the painting “2 Shores 2 Souls,” one almost feels the golden light on each “shore,” with the central swirling sea of cold blue that divides them. Offers the painter, “I was inspired by a quote from Khalil Gibran, ”Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.” Lambert maintains studios in Ohio and France, and makes regular visits to her family in Muncie.
Jan McCune, recently retired art teacher, just returned from a 21 day trip through New Zealand. The prolific artist produces one-of-a-kind pendants in silver and copper, adding etched textures and interesting, sometimes rare, stones. This exhibit will feature 21 new pendants inspired by the trip, including Maori motifs, such as carvings, tattoos, the spiral and fish hooks. Stones include amber and jade, which the artist learned to carve during her visit. Titled, “The New Zealand Collection,” each pendant may be viewed as a small format work of wearable art.
A reception for the artists will be held First Thursday, May 3rd , 2012, from 5 to 8 PM at the downtown gallery. The public is encouraged to attend, and light refreshments will be served. The other downtown galleries will also be hosting exhibits, and there is no charge to attend.
Each of the artists will give a short talk during the event. McCune will speak and answer questions beginning at 6 PM, followed by Lambert at 6:30.

YART - A Yard Sale for Art!
5:00pm to 12:42pm @
Downtown
Old National Lot
The Spring 2014 Muncie YART will be held on Thursday, May 1st (5-9pm) and is open and free to everyone! :)
YART is a Yard Sale for Art. We keep the yard sale vibe going by having the sale outdoors and keeping all art priced under $40. I hold YART twice a year, in May and October, in Downtown Muncie, in the parking lot of Old National Financial on the corner of Walnut and Charles Streets.
There is no charge to sell at YART, and YART does not take a cut of your sales. Each artist has about a parking space to set up in. Artists manage their own sales and set up their own displays. It's often very windy, so keep that in mind. Many artists make art live during YART!
YART is an all-volunteer/no-budget event and I am very grateful to Cheryl Crowder of the Muncie Downtown Development Partnership for support and the donation of YART poster printing, Old National Financial for the donated use of their parking lot, and to The Artist Within, Inc. for being great YART neighbors!
The 2014 Spring Muncie YART will be held at the same time as the May 2014 First Thursday Gallery Walk throughout Downtown Muncie. There is a LOT going on with art shows, live music, food, and community fellowship. The Caffeinery has just opened across the street from the YART lot too. This will be a really fun night for everyone and it's great to support local artists!
Please "Share" this and encourage artists to sell at YART and buyers to shop at YART! :)

YART is a Yard Sale for Art! YART began in Muncie, Indiana with students at Ball State University and continues in several U.S. cities! The Muncie YART is now held Downtown, twice a year, Spring and Fall.
Muncie’s Fall YART 2014 will be held in conjunction with the October 2014 ArtsWalk, in the Old National Financial lot on the corner of Walnut and Charles Streets in Downtown Muncie, Indiana, on Thursday, October 2nd, from 5-9pm. This community art sale, with a goal of making art affordable and accessible to everyone, brings together artists and art patrons in a casual and unique setting.
All forms of art are welcome! Art of all kinds, by all kinds of artists! YART encourages interaction between artists and the community, hoping to make art more accessible, especially to those who think they cannot afford to buy art for themselves. To this goal, all YART art will be priced below $40!
Each YART Artist will be present throughout YART to meet the public, discuss their art, handle sales personally, and some artists will be making art LIVE at YART!
The Fall 2014 YART will feature holiday decorations and gifts, beaded jewelry, photography, oil/acrylic/watercolor paintings, fused glass art and jewelry, knits for children and adults, drawings, sculpture, lampwork glass beads, knit stuffed animals, clothing, digital art, poetry, faeries, mosaics, the YART Hands-On Children’s ArtSpace, Bette Graham Memorial Print-Making for Kids presented by The Artist Within, the Art Mart Mobile Supply Shop, the BSU Ceramics Guild, the John Peterson Pottery Students, LIVE MUSIC, and so much more!
Fun for all ages - YART and ArtsWalk are for the whole family!
